MLS Moves: Harkes and DeLeon are among nine players whose options D.C. United declined

D.C. United announced it had picked up the options on only two players -- Luciano Acosta and Jalen Robinson -- and did not exercise options on nine others, including Ian Harkes, the 2016 MAC Hermann Trophy winner, and Nick DeLeon, who scored in overtime of the Knockout Round match United lost to Columbus in a shootout.

United was re-negotiating the loan/transfer option for Yamil Asad, whose contract is owned by Argentina's Velez Sarsfield, and several other contracts.

Three players are out of contract -- Darren Mattocks, Oniel Fisher and Travis Worra -- while Taylor Kemp retired.

2019 Roster (15 players):
Goalkeepers (2): Bill Hamid, David Ousted.
Defenders (5): Steven Birnbaum, Frederic Brillant, Joseph Mora, Chris Odoi-Atsem, Jalen Robinson.
Midfielders (7): Luciano Acosta, Paul Arriola, Russell Canouse, Chris Durkin, Junior Moreno, Ulises Segura, Zoltan Stieber.
Forwards (1): Wayne Rooney.

Harkes should never have been drafted by DCU. He brought too little to the table.
