NCAA Division II Women: Grand Valley State closes in on sixth title in last decade

Unbeaten Grand Valley State is one win away from its sixth NCAA Division II women's title in the last decade thanks to a 3-0 win over Lee that moved it into Saturday's final against Bridgeport in Pittsburgh.

The Lakers improved to 25-0-1 thanks to goals by Caitie Baron, Ava Cook (her 24th of the season) and Chelsea Graves. The assist by Japanese midfielder Riko Sagara on Cook's goal gave her 23 for the season, tops in the Division II ranks. Sagara set an NAIA record with 37 assists for Martin Methodist in 2017.

Second-half goals from Swedish sophomore Amanda Ebbesson and English junior Maegen Doyle gave Bridgeport a 2-0 win over UC San Diego, which has won two Division II and five Division III titles.

The win moved the Purple Knights into the Division II championship game for the first time. They played six players from Sweden, two from Brazil and England and one from Norway and the Netherlands in addition to two Americans.
