NCAA Division II Men: Barry rallies for first championship

Barry captured its first NCAA Division II men’s championship with a 2-1 win over West Chester on two late goals in Saturday's final in Pittsburgh.

The Buccaneers were trailing when James Kirkham scored on a header following a corner kick in the 78th minute. Six minutes later, Stephen Kosmala scored the winner on a free kick.

Jason Pixley, who scored the overtime winner in the semifinals, put West Chester ahead in the 24th minute.

Barry has been a D2 power for many years, but it only reached the title game once before, losing to Cal State Dominguez Hills in 2000. West Chester's only national title came in 1961 when the NCAA championship was an open competition. It didn't introduce a D2 competition until 1972.
