Ajax rewards 18-year-old Sergino Dest with pro deal

Sergino Dest, one of the standouts for the U.S. U-20 national team that won the recent Concacaf championship, has signed his first pro contract with Ajax.

Dest, 18, started the season with Ajax O19, the under-19 team, but has been moved up to Jong Ajax, the second team that plays in the Eereste, the second level of Dutch pro soccer. He has one goal in five games for Jong Ajax.

Dest, who was born in Almere, Netherlands, to an American father and Dutch mother, signed a deal that begins on Jan. 1 2019, and lasts through the 2020-21 season.

He played for the USA at the 2017 U-17 World Cup and was selected to the all-tournament team at the recent Concacaf U-20 Championship.

He is allowed to a certain  age to play for Holland but when he reaches that age he has to choose.

Craig, playing at Ajax he will certainly be on their radar. Now that he has a pro contract though, it will be less likely he will be released for the U20 world cup.
