What's in the news ...

1. U.S. national team goalkeeper Zack Steffen will join Manchester City from the Columbus Crew next summer.Steffen, the 2018 MLS Goalkeeper of the Year, will leave when the 2019 MLS summer transfer window opens. The Crew described the transfer fee as the largest in club history and most ever received by an MLS team for a goalkeeper. British media reported the fee to be 7 million pounds ($8.8 million.)

2. MLS Cup 2018 drew 1,563,000 viewers on Fox, making it the most-watched MLS Cup since 1997, according to Nielsen Media Research. The viewership for the Atlanta United-Portland game increased 91 percent over the audience for the 2017 final between Toronto FC and Portland. The match at Atlanta pulled in an average minute audience of 23,212, making it Fox Sports' most streamed MLS event ever.

3. The Houston Dash has hired Englishman James Clarkson as its new head coach. Clarkson, 46, joins the Dash after more than a decade with the Houston Dynamo Academy, where he most recently served as the director of youth development. The Dash also announced that it will increase the number of full-time assistants and add a full-time goalkeeper coach. Vera Pauw left after one season to return to the Netherlands. The Dash's 9-10-5 record in 2018 was its best in five seasons, but it has yet to make the playoffs.
