When Brad Friedel left the U-19 head coaching position in November of 2017, U-15 coach Dave van den Bergh moved into the U-19 position. Van den Bergh is now serving as acting head coach of the U-17s, replacing interim head coach Shaun Tsakiris, who served as interim U-17 head coach after John Hackworth left for the USL's Louisville City in July of 2018
Onalfo, who played for the U.S. U-20s in their 1989 fourth-place U-20 World Cup finish, served as head coach of the LA Galaxy for the first half of the 2017 MLS season after serving as LA Galaxy II head coach and Galaxy assistant coach since 2011. He was head coach of MLS's Kansas City in 2007-09 after four years of assisting Bruce Arena with the full U.S. national team.
