MLS Preseason: In the news

1. Gregory van der Wiel has left Toronto FC's training camp in California, writing on Instagram that "year two will never come due to differences with the coaching staff." The Dutchman's departure followed reports of an altercation with TFC head coach Greg Vanney. Van der Wiel, who has played for Ajax, Paris St. Germain, Fenerbahce and Cagliari, made 27 league appearances in 2018.

2. Reports of Club America's interest in signing Kaku from the New York Red Bulls persist. ESPN Mexico reported that the Red Bulls want $12 million for the midfielder, who had six goals and 14 assists in his first MLS season. Kaku tweeted (in Spanish): "Do not give up, sometimes the last key is the one that opens the door," accompanied by two emoji, one a four-leaf clover and the other an eagle after Club America's nickname.

3. Seattle Sounders GM Garth Lagerwey said there have been no offers for Nicolas Lodeiro. At MLS Media Day, Lodeiro said there were only rumors about a move to Boca Juniors but he suggested returning to a big club like his old club would be something the Sounders and their fans would understand.
