Less than a month after arriving in Germany, Tyler Adams made his Bundesliga debut for RB Leipzig, starting in midfield in its 4-0 victory win at Fortuna Duesseldorf.
An ankle injury to Kevin Kampl thrust Adams into a starting role, but head coach
Ralf Rangnick may have a hard time keeping the American teenager out of the lineup for the next Bundesliga game Friday at Hannover 96.
Adams stamped his mark on the game in the
first half as Leipzig jumped out to a 3-0 lead.
"Tyler had a great game," said Dane Yussuf Poulsen, who scored twice in the first 17 minutes. "He won more or less every challenge
in the first half. For such a young player playing his first game in a new team and a new league, he was very good."
Adams, 19, is the third American under the age of 21 to debut in the
Bundesliga this season after Schalke 04's Haji Wright, 20, and Werder Bremen's Josh Sargent, 18.
"For me to take it all in, digest it and be patient is the key for me,"
Adams told Bundesliga.com after the game. "I'm not going to
play in 10 games in a row all the time. I have to be patient, wait for my time, work hard and get better every day."
