Matt Polster
is the latest U.S. international to sign
for Scottish club Rangers.
The 25-year-old right back signed a two-and-a-half-year deal as a free agent from the Chicago Fire.
Polster made his debut for the USA in a 0-0 tie
against Bosnia-Herzegovina a year ago but an injury kept him out most of the 2018 MLS season. He left the Fire after playing in 82 matches in four seasons.
"This is something that I've
always dreamed about doing," Polster said in a statement released by the club. "As a little boy, a lot of people would know that I wanted to play in Europe, before even going to MLS. To finally do it,
for this kind of club has left me feeling speechless in a way."
Managed by former England captain and LA Galaxy midfielder
Steven Gerrard, Rangers is tied for second in the
Scottish Premier League, six points behind Glasgow rival Celtic.
Before it hit on hard times and was dropped to the fourth tier of Scottish soccer in 2012, Rangers was home to American
stars
Claudio Reyna,
DaMarcus Beasley,
Carlos Bocanegra,
Maurice Edu and
Alejandro Bedoya. More recently,
Gedion Zelalem and
Emerson Hyndman played on
loan at Rangers.
