MLS Preseason: Josef Martinez in rare form -- four goals and two assists

Josef Martinez, the 2018 MLS MVP, was in rare form in Wednesday's preseason scrimmage against a team of reserves from Mexico's Tijuana, scoring four goals and assisting on two others -- all in the first 68 minutes -- as Atlanta United beat Xolos, 6-1, at Cal State Fullerton.

Martinez scored in the 6th, 16th, 43rd and 68th minutes and set up Tito Villalba in the 20th and Ezequiel Barco in the 52nd. Martinez's latter two goals were set up by new signing Gonzalo "Pity" Martinez.

Atlanta United had opened preseason in Southern California with a 7-1 win over the Seattle Sounders.

Tijuana fielded a team of reserves, including 19-year-old American Angel Uribe. The lone Xolos goal was scored by former Chivas USA and Houston Dynamo star Erick Torres.

A second Atlanta United team beat host Cal State Fullerton, 1-0, on a goal by Romario Williams.
