What They're Saying: Reggie Cannon

"It was a very emotional time before the game. They told us the news. Some of the new guys didn’t know Fernando really well, but it was more about the family aspect. We lost someone near and dear to the FC Dallas family. [Fernando] contributed so much to the game and so much to the club that you can’t even put into words. Especially for me personally, he’s done so much with giving me a chance to play on an MLS club at 19 years old. He believed in me. It’s hard to swallow, but I know he’s in a better place watching over us now and I know God welcomed him into his home, but it’s always tough to accept those news. Obviously, for me personally it was tough to play with that weighing on the back of my mind, but that’s sometimes life. You have to move on."

-- FC Dallas defender Reggie Cannon on the news of Fernando Clavijo's death, which came before FC Dallas played split-squad matches against Bayern Munich's U-23s and San Antonio FC. Clavijo, the FC Dallas technical director, signed Cannon as a Homegrown Player out of UCLA two years ago. Last year, Cannon debuted for the USA. (FCDallas.com)

Hopefully you will be adding to this story with comments from even more who knew Fernando Clavijo.

While I have only known the Clavijo family for 15 or so years, they are a joyful family to know.  It is Fernando's joy and warmth of spirit that he transferred to them as he led by example.  He gladly shared his attention and concern with each person in his life.  The person will be missed even more than his storied accomplishments would suggest.
