U.S. Soccer president Carlos Cordeiro
announced on Friday at the AGM in Scottsdale that the USASA Amateur Cup champion will play the UEFA amateur champion in a new competition.
Amateur Cup was established in 1923 and played alongside the Open Cup until the USASA took over the organization of the annual competition. The reigning champions are the Milwaukee Bavarians, who beat
West Chester (Pa.) United for their fourth title in 2018. For the first time in 2019, the Amateur Cup champion gains an automatic berth in the Open Cup.
The UEFA amateur champion is the
winner of the UEFA Regions' Cup, which is held every other year. Croatia's Zagreb is the reigning champion, winning the eight-team final competition in 2017 with a 1-0 win over Ireland's Region 2 in
the championship game played in Istanbul. In all, 38 teams took part in the 2017 UEFA Regions' Cup.
