Nashville SC keeps name and gold color for MLS move

The MLS team that will play in Nashville, beginning in 2020, will keep the name it adopted when it joined the USL in 2018: Nashville SC.

Nashville SC, which will play in the USL in 2019, also kept gold as the team’s primary color.

“The Nashville SC name and primary gold color, along with the themes of sound and energy in the logo, embody our city and our fans who have been with us from the start," said majority owner John Ingram.

The MLS colors and crest were introduced at a party Wednesday evening at Marathon Music Works attended by 2,000 fans.

"As we grow as a team," Nashville MLS CEO Ian Ayre, "we want to be recognizable by our color, our name and our values as a club. It was important to us that we started that by bringing the brand to life in a uniquely Nashville setting with our supporters, our partners, our owners, Major League Soccer and everyone who made this possible, and of course with music."

With that in mind, it has created #BandTogether as the hashtag for its inaugural season.

    Weak branding

On the bright side, I'm glad they kept SC instead of morphing into FC as the sport is known as soccer in the US and Canada. I had to go to MLS's website and get an explanation for the crest, which is not a good thing. The vertical lines represent sound waves, picking up Nashville's connection to the music industry. The obvious and clearer symbol to use would have been a musical note but the logo could have looked like that of the St. Louis Blues hockey team, particularly as both teams wear very similar colors. As Nashville is best known for country music, maybe they could do something interesting with "club and country" in the future.

Not crazy about the logo, but wish the team well. Maybe they could have incorporated the musical note and staff (is that the right term, the lines on which music is written?) or an iconic instrument somehow. The sound wave doesn’t translate well...

Logo is a joke.  Doesn't look like a sound graphic.  3rd grade design.

Color scheme is basically the Crew's.  (The blue is so muted it looks black -- and why post it
on what looks like a "men working" sign?)

Team name = zero imagination.  Blah.

Thank God for the Galaxy, the Fire and other teams with names and actual mascots.
