Evening Edition: What's in the news ...

1. Gary Smith will coach Nashville SC when it moves from the USL Championship to MLS in 2020. Smith, who moved to Nashville for its first year in the USL in 2018, was the head coach of the Colorado Rapids in 2010 when they won MLS Cup. Prior to joining the Rapids, he worked at clubs in his native England, including Arsenal and Watford, and after leaving Colorado was the head coach of Stevenage FC of English League One and the NASL's Atlanta Silverbacks.

2. Sebastian Soto joined U.S. U-20 teammate Chris Gloster at training Wednesday on German Bundesliga club Hannover 96's first team. Soto and Gloster were among four youth players called up. Gloster had trained with the first team last week. Soto accompanied the first team for winter camp in Spain. Hannover 96 is likely headed for relegation, sitting in 17th place.

3. The New York Cosmos are moving to Mitchel Athletic Complex, their training home, for their 2019 NPSL season and Founders Cup in the fall. They played last season at the Hofstra University -- the home of the original Cosmos in 1972-73 -- and Columbia University -- at the stadium named after owner Rocco Commisso, who played at Columbia and is a major benefactor of the Ivy League school. They played their last season in the NASL at a minor league baseball stadium, MCU Park, just off the Coney Island boardwalk in Brooklyn.
