Evening Edition: What's in the news ...

1. Atlanta United's Ezequiel Barco won MLS Player of the Week honors after scoring both goals in the defending champion's 2-0 win at New England, its first win of the 2019 season. It was the first multi-goal game for the 20-year-old Argentine whose 2018 move from Independiente for a reported $15 million set a record for a transfer fee paid by an MLS club.

2. Former Clemson defender Sam Staab was the standout rookie in the first week of NWSL play, scoring the winner for the Washington Spirit in its 2-0 win over Sky Blue FC. Staab was one of three first-round picks in the 2019 College Draft to start for the Spirit along with Stanford products Jordan DiBiasi and Tegan McGrady. Tierna Davidson, another Stanford product and the No. 1 overall pick, started for Chicago in its 1-1 tie at North Carolina.

3. Ricardo Pepi, 16, has scored all four goals for North Texas SC in the USL League
One. The U.S. under-17 forward scored on a penalty kick in the 95th minute to give the first-year FC Dallas second team a 1-0 victory over Forward Madison FC. NTSC is the only unbeaten and untied team in the new 10-team league.
