Evening Edition: What's in the news ...

1. Leonard Griffin has been hired as the men's head coach at the University of San Francisco, replacing Eddie Soto, who resigned after five seasons to take the job as men's coach at Division II Cal State Dominguez Hills. Griffin, a former All-American defender at UCLA, spent three seasons as the assistant coach at Portland. He will become only the sixth head coach in the history of the program founded in 1947.

2. The U.S. Club Soccer board of directors will again include Shannon Cirovski and Shannon MacMillan, both former U.S. Women's World Cup champions and Hall of Famers. Cirovski is the Bethesda SC director of coaching while MacMillan is the executive director of DMCV Sharks. K.C. Crabb, Eddie Henderson and Mike Sweeney joined Cirovski in being re-elected as regional board directors. Besides MacMillan, Jamaican women's national team coach Hue Menzies, Simon Davey and Colette Montgomery were appointed as at-large directors. The board is currently comprised of 14 members.

3. The Gulf Coast Premier League has directly affiliated with the USASA as a multi-state league. It was formed as the Louisiana Soccer League in 2015-16 but has since expanded into Alabama, Florida, Texas and Mississippi and will move into the Midwest with the Great Plains Premier League in 2020.
