NYCFC moves into semifinals at Dallas Cup Super Group

NYCFC, which won the 2018 Development Academy U-18/19 national championship, reached Friday's semifinals of the Gordon Jago Super Group at the Dr Pepper Dallas Cup, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary.

In the final day of group play, NYCFC lost to Mexico's Tigres, 2-0, but advanced as the top second-place team. It had beaten Liverpool, 1-0, on Homegrown signing Justin Haak's goal and crushed Ikapa United from South Africa, 8-0.

The win moved it into the final four against Spain's Villarreal. City rivals Monterrey and Tigres meet in the other Super Group semifinal.

The other three MLS academy teams finished with a combined record of one win, six losses and two ties.

Sunday's opening tripleheader at the Cotton Bowl drew a crowd of 20,940, a tournament record.

This had to be a dissapointing showing for the US  in the U19's super group.  Not one US Team won their bracket.  Mexico and Spain domintated in their brackets.  Dallas which is usually very strong didn't win a game.  Thoughts???

Yep they crushed a team from South Africa.  That was a team who in three games had 18 goals scored against them and they scored 1.  Probably should not have been in that group you think?
