Evening Edition: What's in the news ...

1. The USA will face Venezuela in Cincinnati on June 9 in its final preparation match for the Gold Cup. Grass will be laid over the turf at Nippert Stadium though that plan has drawn opposition from the U.S. National Soccer Team Players Association, which issued a statement that "a game played on sod on top of artificial turf will be a waste of 90 minutes and also presents a substantially increased risk of player injury." For La Vinotinto, which most recently beat Argentina, 3-1, in a friendly played in March, the game will be a tune-up for the Copa America.

2. FC Arizona, which will play in the NPSL's Founders Cup, is working with developers to identify a site that would include a 10,900-seat soccer stadium, soccer complex and mixed-use development in Greater Phoenix's Southeast Valley. FC Arizona is also starting a WPSL women's team and youth club in 2019.

3. New York City FC is starting the City Select League for youth teams in the Tri-State area, beginning in fall 2019. The expanded NYCFC Affiliate League will include more than 20 clubs in boys U-9 to U-12 age groups.
