McKennie, who suffered an ankle injury in the second half of the 1-0 win over Ecuador, started for Schalke 04 in its 5-2 home loss to Hoffenheim that left it in 15th place and still not assured of staying up.

Pulisic, who came off with a calf injury in the 1-1 tie with Chile, played 20 minutes off the bench in Borussia Dortmund's 4-0 win over Freiburg.

Meanwhile, Tyler Adams, the third 20-year-old national team player in the Bundesliga, missed his third straight game with a leg injury. RB Leipzig won 4-2 at Bayer Leverkusen to solidify its hold on third place and all but clinch a berth in next season's UEFA Champions League.
