Mexico: Dos Santos, Fabian, Antuna called up for pre-Gold Cup camp, Vela out

A pair of first-year MLS players -- 21-year-old winger Uriel Antuna (LA Galaxy) and veteran  midfielder Marco Fabian (Philadelphia Union) -- are among the 29 players Mexico national team coach Tata Martino has called up for a pre-Gold Cup that will feature matches against Venezuela in Atlanta (June 5) and Ecuador in Arlington, Texas (June 9).

Jonathan dos Santos (LA Galaxy) is also in the team, but Carlos Vela (LAFC) declined a call-up.

"I spoke with Carlos Vela over the phone last week," Martino said at a press conference to announce the team, "and he assured me that at this time his club and his family are his priority, that's why he stepped aside."

Vela is just one of several stars who will be missing this summer. Others include:

-- Javier Hernandez, whose girlfriend Sarah Kohan is expecting their first child, a boy;
-- Hector Herrera, who wants time off pending his move from Porto to Atletico Madrid;
-- Jesus Corona, who had declined a call-up for the March friendlies, landing in Martino's dog house;
-- Diego Lainez, who is with Mexico's U-20 World Cup team.

In addition, Chucky Lozano injured his knee playing with Dutch club PSV in late April and is a race to recover by June.
