“We haven’t been paid. But we signed a contract.”
--
Hue Menzies, the head coach of Jamaica's women's national team headed to the Women's World Cup for the first
time, joking about being the first Caribbean women's team to have contracts with its federation. The Reggae Girlz held a fund-raiser and an auction in South Florida's Jamaican community to raise money
for the chronically underfunded national team program. Players have a contract with the Jamaica Football Federation ($800-$1,200 a month, retroactive to January), and Menzies, the executive director
of Central Florida Kraze/ Krush, will receive $40,000. (
