What They're Saying: Tata Martino

"I can recommend [tougher] competition, like you [the press] can and the directors as well. [Participation] doesn't depend on my side. If it was up to me, we would be playing Copa America and Mexican clubs would be in the Copa Libertadores."

-- Mexico national team coach Tata Martino on his disappointment that El Tri was not invited to the 2020 Copa America. (The two guest spots in the 12-team tournament will go to Australia and Qatar.) His comments came a week after he said he wanted to get out of the "comfort zone" of playing friendly games in the United States, where El Tri is a home team with its support, and face superior opponents abroad.
