Duane Holmes became the second player
to drop out of the U.S. team for the Gold Cup since its 23-player roster was finalized.
The Derby County midfielder was forced to withdraw after re-aggravating a left quadriceps strain he suffered prior to the end of his club season in England.
U.S. national team head coach Gregg Berhalter called in Chicago Fire midfielder Djordje Mihailovic to replace Holmes. Mihailovic debuted for the USA in January and has earned three caps, starting most recently in the 1-0 loss to Jamaica.
Earlier in the week, Tyler Adams dropped out with a groin injury and was replaced by Reggie Cannon.
John Brooks, DeAndre Yedlin and Ethan Horvath, who all started for Berhalter in March, all were scratches because of late-season injuries suffered with their European clubs.
