USL Championship: What's in the news ...

1. The Phoenix Rising is the hottest team in the USL Championship, extending its winning streak to five games by defeating Orange County SC, 3-0, in a rematch of the 2018 Western Conference final. An own goal by Kevin Alston gave the Rising the early lead and it pulled away with goals by Adam Jahn and Solomon Asante. The win moved the Rising into a share of the lead in the Western Conference with the El Paso Locomotive, a 2-0 winner at Tulsa.

2. The Las Vegas Lights ended their five-game winless streak with a 5-1 win over New Mexico United at Cashman Field. Former U.S. U-20 Javan Torre and former Philadelphia Union Homegrown player Cristhian Hernandez staked the Lights to a 2-0 lead at the half. New Mexico United, which reached the round of 16 in the U.S. Open Cup when it beat the Colorado Rapids in a shootout, has one point in its last three USL Championship games and dropped to third place in the Western Conference.

3. Saint Louis FC, the other USL Championship team still alive in the Open Cup, fell to Bethlehem Steel, 3-1, in front of 222 fans at McCarthy Stadium, the Philadelphia Union's temporary facility at La Salle University. Saint Louis FC is winless in its last four league games after starting the season with a 5-1-2 record. It hosts FC Cincinnati in the Open Cup Wednesday, returning to WWT Soccer Park after playing the fourth round at Lindenwood College.
