Evening Edition: What's in the news ...

1. The defending champion North Carolina Courage will host the 2019 NWSL final on Oct. 27 at Sahlen’s Stadium. It will be the fifth year in a row that the NWSL championship game will be at a predetermined site. The Courage will also host the Women’s International Champions Cup in Cary Aug. 15-18 with the participation of Manchester City, Atletico Madrid and Atletico Madrid.

2. Sky Blue FC traded U.S. international Savannah McCaskill to the Chicago Red Stars for their highest first- and second-round selections in 2020. McCaskill earned six caps early in her first pro season out of the University of South Carolina. She started 17 games for Sky Blue in 2018 but just three in 2019. Sky Blue is 1-23-8 in the last two seasons.

3. Sophie Jones of Menlo (Calif.) School was named the 2018-19 Gatorade National Girls Soccer Player of the Year. She had 18 goals and 16 assists despite missing the final two games of the season to train with the U.S. U-20 women’s national team. Jones, who played for the USA at the 2018 Under-17 World Cup, is headed to Duke University this fall.
