Pepi quickly climbs FC Dallas ladder

FC Dallas signed Ricardo Pepi, considered one of the USA's top young prospects, to a Homegrown MLS contract.

The U.S. U-17 has scored seven goals in six games for North Texas SC, the FC Dallas second team in the new USL League One, and played for FC Dallas on loan in its two Open Cup matches.

Pepi, who turned 16 in January, scored all three goals in North Texas SC's 3-2 win over the Chattanooga Red Wolves in their first USL League One game. He is the player to sign with FC Dallas from USL League One development pathway.

At 16 years and 163 days old, Pepi is the fourth youngest player to sign with FC Dallas behind Bryan Reynolds, Dante Sealy and Jesus Ferreira.

FC Dallas discovered Pepi playing in El Paso, where he first played for the FC Dallas El Paso affiliate and then moved to the Dallas area to play in the FC Dallas academy. He played in both the Mexico and U.S. youth national team systems.

Pepi's story and those of Mexican-Americans from the U.S.-Mexico border in West Texas were the subject of a New York Times feature in 2016.
