Emerson Hyndman joins Atlanta United on loan from Bournemouth
Deal. The Five Stripes have an option to purchase Hyndman
following the loan’s expiration at the end of 2019 MLS season. They acquired Hyndman’s MLS rights in a trade with FC Dallas in exchange for an international roster slot in 2019 and 2020,
in addition to $200,000 in GAM.
What They're Saying. “We’re excited to bring a talented young player like
Emerson in to bolster our midfield,” vice president and technical director
Carlos Bocanegra said. “In addition to his technical, on-the-ball abilities, he performed well in two
physically demanding leagues in the Scottish Premiership and English Championship.”
Career. Born in Dallas, Hyndman, the
son of former FC Dallas coach
Schellas Hyndman, joined the Fulham youth academy in 2011 at the age of 15. He made his professional debut for the Cottagers in the English Championship in
2014 and moved to Bournemouth on a free transfer two years later.
Unable to break in at Bournemouth -- where he played two league games in three seasons -- Hyndman had two spells in
Scotland, at Rangers in 2017 and Hibernian in 2018.
Too soon. He needed another spell at a European or South American club before he can come back and command the big bucks. Horvath seems to have found a good groove over there--first Norway then Belgium. Was England/Scotland the right path? One of the benefits is in the US EH will get more exposure-- the Nats coaches can track him more easily from their sofas than when he's over there. Good luck, EH!
