What They're Saying: Tata Martino

“I keep insisting we will be even better with those who were not here due to different circumstance. We were without one of the three best forwards in the Dutch league, for example, who had a knee injury. Obviously there’s no reason to think we can’t be better with these players. We’ll see which players return and which don’t. I’m very happy with the first six months of my time in charge.”

-- Tata Martino, after Mexico won the Gold Cup with a 1-0 win over the USA in the final, reminding everyone El Tri won its eighth Gold Cup title without PSV's Chucky Lozano, as well as other stars. Hector Herrera, Javier Hernandez and Jesus Manuel Corona missed the tournament for various reasons, while LAFC's Carlos Vela is the one absentee Martino said won't be welcomed back. (Omnisport)

Unfortunate USA lost, but if MX had lost lots of crazy Mexicans would have been rioting to fire Tata (if their media is to be believed). At least now he gets a run up through Qatar to show what he can do. I hope we don't have to face Mexico in the World Cup--he has GB's number.

I still regret USSF ignoring the possibility of hiring Tata Martino.

Unfortunately, the USSF insisted on a coach who was fluent in English. This was extremely short sighted, but typical of (supposed) “American superiority”.

Congratulations to Mexico, it’s great to see them do well without what they perceive as some of their top players.

The US will beat them next time! We had our chances as they did during the game, 1-0 is a very small margin win.

I also would like to commend Coach Berhalter and the USMNT for the progress made to date; it has been noticeably better and I believe and look forward to the continued growth to come!

    Go USA
