Development Academy: NYCFC and FC Dallas reach U-18/19 boys final, Solar stuns LA Galaxy U-16/17s

Defending champion NYCFC reached the U.S. Soccer Development Academy final in the U-18/19 boys age group, setting up a matchup against FC Dallas when it beat Sockers FC, 2-0.

Andres Jasson, who is playing up two years, and Jonathan Jimenez scored for NYCFC. They were among six holdovers who played in the 2018 final, where NYCFC beat a star-studded LA Galaxy team (Efrain Alvarez, Alex Mendez and Uly Llanez) in a shootout.

FC Dallas moved into the final with a 2-0 win over Saint Louis FC thanks to a pair of goals by Tanner Tessman.

Not with FC Dallas were MLS pros from the U/18-19 team: Edwin Cerrillo, Bryan Reynolds, Thomas Roberts, Ricardo Pepi and Dante Sealy.







For the first time since 2009, a non-MLS academy team will win the younger age group. Solar SC stunned the LA Galaxy, 3-2, in a thrilling match that saw the Galaxy come back from two goals down to tie the score in the second half only to fall on Riley O'Donnell's late goal.

The Galaxy featured U.S. U-17 national team players Kobe Hernandez-Foster, Adam Saldana and Mauricio Cuevas, but the game's star was Solar's Bailey Sparks with a goal and an assist.

Solar SC will face the Concorde Fire, which edged the DeAnza Force, 2-1. Both Concorde goals were scored by Colombian-born Miguel Ramirez, who has scored 22 goals in 32 games.

Solar and Concorde won't be the first champions from Dallas and Atlanta, respectively. FC Dallas was the U-15/16 champion in 2015 and 2016 and U-17/18 champion in 2012 and 2016 and Atlanta United won the U-15/16 age group in 2017.

    Congratulations to Solar of Dallas! Seems the better players are on a non-MLS team!
