Wow, sorry about the LAFC/PT game! Though I did not have access to a tv or other device to watch the game, I did listen to the radio broadcast for most of the second half, and heard nothing but moans and groans about the officiating, something I confirmed after the game when I did discussed what happened, and was told that yes, the referee left a lot to be disired, especially when both Vele and Dio were taken down pretty viciously, which contributed to the additional five minutes of play.
Neither the print journalists nor the sports broadcast world pay much attention to the US Open Cup, so it is barely on a soccer fan's radar. This is yet another area where the USSF could have some influence, if only it would choose to do so.
I'm not sure what you expect USSF to do. They' significantly increased prize money in 2018 and signed their first TV contact in 2019. It's really down to the teams to take it more seriously.
