NPSL playoff game will resume two days after it was halted

An NPSL playoff match between AFC Ann Arbor and the Rochester Lancers will resume on Thursday at Gannon University in Erie, Pennsylvania, after it was called on Tuesday in the 69th minute with the score 0-0.

The Midwest Region quarterfinal match was delayed twice by lightning, then stopped in the 69th minute because there were no lights at Concordia University in Ann Arbor.

After the game, AFC Ann Arbor issued a statement that it offered to continue the match indoors but the Lancers declined and the match would be decided on a coin toss. It was reported that the Lancers returned home rather than continue the match against AFC Ann Arbor and had been forced to forfeit.

"Unfortunately, things in our league aren't spelled out very clearly in terms of what to do in these scenarios," AFC Ann Arbor Bilal Saeed told the Ann Arbor News. "You have to go with the punches. The most important thing is we were able to get the match rescheduled.

"It was a unique circumstance. There is a lot of discretion left up to the managing director of the NPSL in terms of weird weather policy. But typically, in this scenario, rain dates are built in and teams stay after and play the next day. We didn't have a team that stayed."

The Midwest regionals conclude with the semifinals and final at Detroit City FC this weekend. The other three regions have moved into their finals.
