Evening Edition: What's in the news ...

1. Real Salt Lake head coach Mike Petke earned a three-game MLS suspension, three-game Leagues Cup suspension and a $25,000 fine for “unacceptable and offensive language as well as repeated confrontational misconduct towards match officials.” RSL also suspended him without pay for two weeks and will require him to attend anger management courses. The disciplinary action follows a red card issued after the Leagues Cup quarterfinal match against Tigres when he berated referee John Pitti. Petke was suspended pending an investigation into the incident for RSL’s match against FC Dallas  (0-0 tie) on Saturday.

2. Orlando City signed Uruguayan playmaker Mauricio Pereyra through the 2020 season. The 29-year-old Pereyra joins the Lions as a mid-year Designated Player on a free transfer following seven seasons in Russia with FC Krasnodar. His only international experience for the Celeste came at the 2009 Under-20 World Cup in Egypt.

3. Toronto FC acquired French winger Nicolas Benezet on loan with an option to buy from Ligue 2's Guingamp, using Targeted Allocation Money. Benezet, 28, spent the last seven seasons in Ligue 1 with Evian, Caen and Guingamp, which was relegated at the end of the 2019 season. It was runner-up to Strasbourg in the 2019 Coupe de la Ligue.
