What They're Saying: Michael Eisner

“When I was about 8 years old, I saw a movie called ‘The Singer Not the Song’ which is about an English star and a priest. The whole point of the movie is the question of whether to follow the Catholic church, with its moral direction, or the priest inside the Catholic church with his moral direction. Is it the singer or is it the song? At Disney the song was the culture created by Walt Disney but after he died the singers sang the song the same way. So when we came in in ‘84, my view was that we didn’t create the song. The song is there but let’s sing it really well. And if you asked me what the strategy would be in Portsmouth, it’s similar. We did not create the song. The song is Portsmouth. The song is the football team. The singer is us so how do we sing that song that exists?”

-- Michael Eisner, Disney’s former CEO, on Portsmouth, which plays in England's League One and only narrowly missed out on promotion last season after less than two years under Eisner’s ownership. He hopes to get Pompey to the Premier League within a decade. (Forbes.com)

Nice story. Would be nice if he was an investor in a  US professional team Men’s or women’s.
