Sergino Dest makes Eredivisie debut with Ajax

Two weeks after starting for Ajax in its 2-0 win over PSV in the pre-season Johan Cruyff Shield, 18-year-old Sergino Dest made his Eredivisie debut in Ajax's 5-0 win over Emmen.

Dest, who played left back against PSV, came on for Dutch-born Moroccan international Noussair Mazraoui, the Ajax right back, in the 53rd minute. Dest is in his first full season as a pro. He played for the Ajax U-19s (O19) and reserve team (Jong Ajax) last season.

Dest, who has played for the USA at the 2017 U-17 World Cup and 2019 U-20 World Cup, is the third American to play for Ajax after Eddy Hamel (1922-30) and John O'Brien (1999-2005).

Another Dutch-American, Desevio Payne, came on as a sub for Emmen.
