USL Championship: What's in the news ...

1. The New York Red Bulls II took advantage of a rare double ejection in the 53rd minute to rally and beat Hartford Athletic, 5-1, on the road and take over the lead in the Eastern Conference. Raymond Lee and Alex Davey were both shown red cards and although Vincent Bezecourt missed the penalty kick for the foul committed by Davey, RBII later scored five unanswered goals, beginning with Sebastian Elney's goal in the 64th minute. It leads the Tampa Bay Rowdies by one point after the Rowdies dropped a 1-0 decision at home to Birmingham.

2. The Phoenix Rising's winning streak is a league-record 13 games following its 2-1 win over El Paso that extended its lead in the Western Conference to six points. Phoenix took advantage of a red card to El Paso’s James Kiffe for elbowing captain Solomon Asante in the face, breaking a 1-1 tie in the 73rd minute on a penalty kick converted by Asante for his 16th goal of the season. The game drew a crowd of 6,520, the Rising’s 14th consecutive sellout at Casino Arizona Field.

3. Loudoun United, D.C. United's second team, drew a sellout crowd of 5,015 for its 3-3 tie with the Charlotte Independence in the first game at Segra Field, its new home stadium in Leesburg. The stadium is part of a $15 million project to expand Bolen Memorial Park. A training center for D.C. United and Loudoun United is expected to be completed next summer
