LAFC: Rich get richer with Palacios signing

LAFC pulled off quite a coup when it signed Ecuador U-20 star Diego Palacios, using TAM to acquire from Aucas and completing the deal before Wednesday's MLS transfer deadline.

Palacios starred for Ecuador, which beat the USA in the quarterfinals of the Under-20 World Cup in Poland after capturing the South American youth championship.

The 20-year-old left back spent last season at Dutch club Willem II and was reported to be a target of Barcelona, Ajax and PSV. LAFC, the runaway leader in the MLS Supporters' Shield race, will be able to bring Palacios along slowly. Its starting left back is veteran Jordan Harvey.

“Diego is a young, talented left back,” said LAFC head coach Bob Bradley, "and we’re really excited because we think he’s another player that fits well with everything we try to do."

LAFC's other major summer signing was also a 20-year-old South American: Uruguayan Brian Rodriguez, signed as a Young Designated Player from Penarol.

This is impressive. So much so I just looked up who the ownership group is, because it appears that these are not bored rich guys (my apologies to Mia) who bought a sports team to run as a hobby. I haven't seen the likes of this management since DC United in the first years of MLS.

This is exactly what the USA needs--a few clubs to step up and lead the way to excellence on the field. Successful innovators always inspire imitators. I never had a good idea that I didn't steal from someone else.

Whaaat?!? Ms. Mia Hamm Garciaparra just "bought a sports team to run as a hobby...!"  Wow Mr. BA, that is indeed a far reach, since I realy do not get the feeling that you don't know the Lady, as she sure as hell is no shrinking violet amongst the male-dominant LAFC owners group.  And the other guys, from my first interaction with several of the owners, way before they moved in to their fledgeling headquarters in the LA Live district, that they sure as hell were out to make a statement, and quite a statement they've made!!!  Imagine this:  on the way home ater the game this past weekend, we were in a LA Metro car, surrounded by not just the newly minted die-hard LAFC fans, but "newbies," who were literally blown away with what they experienced, the 31252 Crowd, a Club (I think the only MLS club) with a live falcon, Ollie, and even the mayor of our fair city of Los Angeles present (was honorary falconer), the fans all singing the national anthem led by the 3252s.  And know what, whether they sign yet another South American, or from whereever, I get the feeling their just getting started, as they ARE L.A.'s very own team!!!

Ric, you apparently didn't see the word "not". I was apologizing to Mia for referring to owners as "guys".
