U.S. under-20 women select two German-based players for Japan series

The USA will play Japan in two under-20 women's friendlies Aug. 28 and Aug. 31 during a training camp at the Elite Athlete Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif.
Head coach Mark Carr has called in 20 players, including two players who have moved to Germany: forward Talia DellaPeruta (FC Cologne) and midfielder Aki Yuasa (Bayern Munich). The have not signed pro contracts, so they are still eligible to attend college.

Of the other 18 players, two are freshmen in college: Bria Schrotenboer (Michigan State) and Katelyn Duong (Minnesota).

All are born in 2001 or 2002. Players born in 2000 should form the nucleus of the team that will attempt to qualifying for the 2020 U-20 World Cup in Nigeria.
“Japan are a long-time world power," said Carr, "so playing them twice will give us a snapshot of where we are, both individually and collectively, as well as the areas we need to improve as we get closer to World Cup qualifying early next year.”
