Saturday morning: What's in the news ...

1. Catarina Macario, the 2018 MAC Hermann Trophy winner, scored both goals to lead No. 2 Stanford to a 2-1 win over No. 6 Penn State before 5,238 fans, the second-largest crowd in Penn State history. The Brazilian-born Macario dribbled around three Nittany Lions defenders and then beat a fourth on the opening goal. Macario will be eligible to apply for her citizenship next year, but FIFA eligibility rules likely prevent her from applying to play for the USA until she turns 23 in October 2022, less than a year before the next Women's World Cup.

2. Academy Award-winning actor Matthew McConaughey is among four Austin residents who have joined the Austin FC ownership group led by majority partner Anthony Precourt, the MLS expansion team's chairman and CEO. The others are Dell CEO Marius Haas, technology entrepreneur Eddie Margain and energy entrepreneur Bryan Sheffield.

3. Veteran U.S. defender Tim Ream was one of three players who signed new deals with English League Championship team Fulham. The Cottagers activated a clause in his contract to retain Ream through the 2020-21 season. Ream, 31, was Fulham's player of the year when it was promoted from the Championship in 2017-18. He started three straight games -- all wins -- since its relegation back to the Championship.
