What They're Saying: Rodger Champagne

“After I do this thing, I think I’ll go run for prime minister of Canada. It’s got to be easier to run a country than promoting these soccer games.”

-- Canadian TV and music producer Rodger Champagne on the promotion of Thursday’s Argentina-Chile game at the 78,500-seat Los Angeles Coliseum, where as of Tuesday morning only about 10,000 tickets had been sold. Champagne stepped in to promote the friendly after another promoter pulled out, but interest in the match nosedived after Argentine star Lionel Messi was suspended from national team play for three months in August for accusing Conmebol, the organizer of the Copa America, of corruption. Losses on the match could reach $1 million. (Los Angeles Times)
