Women's College Soccer: What's in the news ...

1. Santa Clara stunned No. 2 UCLA with a 2-0 win on a Machaela George header off the post and off a Bruin defender into the goal for an own goal and a Skylar Smith goal. The Broncos, who came into the game with three losses in four outings, all to Top 25 teams, were the aggressor early and could have had taken the lead in the fourth minute but for Izzy D'Aguila's missed penalty attempt.

2. Freshman Diana Ordonez scored in her fifth straight game to lead No. 5 Virginia to a 2-0 win over No. 18 Georgetown. The former U.S. U-17 from the FC Dallas academy program has scored nine goals in the five games for the Cavs. The only other Virginia player to score in her first five collegiate games was Makenzy Doniak in 2012.

3. Seven other teams improved to 5-0-0, including No. 3 North Carolina, which edged LSU, 1-0, on Brianna Pinto's team-leading fourth goal of the season in rainy Chapel Hill. Also opening with five straight wins are No. 11 Rutgers, No. 21 Colorado, Boston College, Louisville, Missouri and Virginia Tech.
