Saturday morning: What's in the news ...

1. Julian Green scored on a penalty kick in the first minute of stoppage time to give Greuther Fuerth a 2-1 win over last-place Wehen Wiesbaden in Germany's 2. Bundesliga. Green's game-winner was his third goal in six games for Greuther Fuerth, which moved into a tie for second place with the win.

2. Sofia Huerta scored twice to lead the Houston Dash to a 2-1 win over the Utah Royals and keep its slim NWSL playoff hopes alive. The Dash would have dropped 12 points behind the fourth-place Royals with four games to play if it had lost. The Royals' loss opens the door for Reign FC to move into fourth place with a win at Washington on Saturday.

3. The USL team that will play in San Diego has hired Pete Thuresson, who has worked in the NBA and NASCAR and at Fox Sports, as its chief commercial officer. Ricardo Campos will serve as the club’s vice president of operations while other hires include Casey Patterson (vice president of tickets, service and membership) and Nick Maranda (vice president of partnerships).
