USL Championship: New York Red Bulls II and Indy Eleven share conference lead

Indy Eleven stayed even with New York Red Bulls II atop the USL Championship's Eastern Conference when it beat Bethlehem Steel, 2-1, before an announced crowd of 12,103 fans at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Dane Kelly's goal in the 80th minute broke a 1-1 tie. The win extended Indy’s unbeaten streak at Lucas Oil Stadium to 23 games.

NYRBII and Indy Eleven are tied on points (56) and wins (17). New York holds the edge on the goal differential tiebreaker, though Indy has one game in hand.

“The character to come back was excellent," Indy coach Martin Rennie said. "Obviously there are a bunch of really good players on this team. Most teams have that, but there is a connection between the players. They fight for each other and care about each other. They have a good culture in the locker room. It’s a unique group of players and that’s what I think makes the difference on a night when players are tired.”

New York Red Bulls II beat the Charlotte Independence, 2-0, on Friday night at MSU Soccer Park.

Danish teenager Mathias Jorgensen opened the scoring in the 15th minute with his ninth goal of the season. Midfielder Jared Stroud, who assisted on Jorgensen's goal, scored his 13th goal of the season in the 83rd minute to seal the victory. He became the first player in NYRBII history to record 20 career goals and 20 assists.
