Wilmer Cabrera dismissed as Impact head coach two months after being hired

Wilmer Cabrera will not return to the Montreal Impact as head coach in 2020.

The 52 year-old Colombian will hold the distinction of being dismissed by two MLS teams in the same year.

He was fired by the Houston Dynamo on Aug. 13 and hired by the Impact on Aug. 21 to replace Frenchman Remy Garde.

Cabrera led the Impact to the Canadian Championship, which qualified it for the 2020 Concacaf Champions League, but it failed to make the 2019 MLS playoffs, going 2-4-1 after his arrival.

“I want to thank the Montreal Impact for the two months I have spent in this beautiful city working with the club,” Cabrera said in a club statement. “Our agreement has ended, which from the beginning was only for two months. I feel proud that we have won the Canadian Championship, a title that the supporters and the club were looking to win since 2014."

Wilmer won't get a lot of credit, but he did bring the US Open Cup to Houston and now has a Canadian Championship.  Neither of those bring a lot of treasure to the club, but they are silverware on the shelf.

You know how Teams have kind of a "Cup" Team and a Liga Team... Maybe Wilmer could be somebodies "Cup" Coach... has anybody ever won Both Cups as a Coach.???... At least Montreal Realized what Dynamo took for EVER to Recognize.. He is not a very Good Coach... Nice Guy though.. Wish him Luck in the Future... Youth Development is about his Level.
