Thursday morning: What's in the news ...

1. Rick Schantz was named the 2019 USL Championship Coach of the Year after leading the Phoenix Rising to league records for total wins (24), total points (78) and goals (89) in a regular season. They followed a 20-game winning streak that broke modern-era outdoor pro records for North American soccer. Schantz's success came in his first full season at the helm in Phoenix. In June 2018, he was named interim coach in place of Frenchman Patrice Carteron and went on to lead the Rising to the 2018 final.

2. San Antonio FC midfielder Cristian Parano was named the USL Championship Young Player of the Year, finishing ahead of the Real Monarchs' Douglas Martinez and Swope Park Rangers' Felipe Hernandez. The 20-year-old Argentine finished with seven goals and six assists and led the USL Championship with 109 successful dribbles. He joined SAFC following stints in the River Plate youth system (2014-17) and at San Martin de San Juan (2017-18).

3. The NWSL champion North Carolina Courage has signed Irish midfielder Denise O'Sullivan its 2018 and 2019 team MVP to a multi-year contract. In its 2018 and 2019 league championship seasons, she made 49 appearances and played 4,090 minutes. O'Sullivan who has 74 caps for Ireland, was recently named the 2019 Women's Senior International Player of the Year by PFA Ireland.
