NCAA Division II Women: Grand Valley State wins record sixth championship

Grand Valley State won the NCAA Division II women's championship for a record sixth time with a 1-0 win over Western Washington.

In a battle of the Division II's top offense (Grand Valley State) against the top defense (Western Washington), neither team could score in the first 90 minutes.

Western Washington had the better of the play throughout the game, finishing with a 26-8 edge in shots, but Grand Valley State won on a goal by Gianna Parlove in the 106th minute.

The win was revenge for a 3-2 loss to Western Washington in the 2016 final that ended the Lakers' run of three straight national championships. Grand Valley State has won six titles in 10 trips to the Division II final over the last 14 years.
