MLS's 25th season will kick off Feb. 29, and its regular season will run through Oct. 4, the same stretch of 32 weeks as in 2019. Schedule: 2020 MLS regular season
With the addition of Inter Miami and Nashville SC, there will be 26
teams, which will each play 34 games (17 home and 17 away), facing conference opponents twice and playing 10 of 13 non-conference opponents once.
Here are some highlights:
-- An all-time high of 46 games will air on network television
(ABC, Fox, Univision and UniMas). ABC, Fox and Univision will carry 28 games in 2020, compared to none just five years ago. In
addition to the games airing on national broadcast partners, every out-of-market match in the U.S. will again be streamed on ESPN+.
-- There will be no break in the 2020 MLS regular
for an international tournament, the first time that's happened since 2015, -- Teams are scheduled to play 59 midweek games
, down for 70 played in 2019. (Some of the
2019 midweek games were played after matches had to be rescheduled.)
-- Teams are scheduled to play only 11 games during the three FIFA windows
during the regular season,
down from 21 played in 2019. -- The regular season will again end with Decision Day.
All 26 MLS clubs will be in action on Oct. 4 with 12 intra-conference matches and one
cross-conference match that all kick off simultaneously at 4:30 p.m. ET.
