What They're Saying: Dabo Swinney

"[Clemson head soccer coach Mike] Noonan is somewhere having a party right now because he just signed an unbelievably talented soccer player. But I've had the inside track on this one for a long time. My best friend is PJ Tessman, he's basically my brother-in-law. His wife's brother married [Kathleen Swinney's] sister. That's how it works in Alabama, we're all connected somehow. But Tanner could go play D1 basketball. He could probably start at receiver at Clemson. He could probably play safety at Clemson. He's a 6-foot-2 phenom. He can fly. He's as good of an athlete as I've ever seen."

-- Clemson football coach Dabo Swinney on signing FC Dallas academy star Tanner Tessmann, who moved from Birmingham, Alabama, to FC Dallas when he was in 8th grade and will attend Clemson on a football scholarship that will allow him to play soccer and football. Swinney brought Tessmann, whose father is his best friend, to his summer camp last year and watched as Tessmann, who has never played football, made a 65-yard field goal with his right foot and a 50-yarder with his left foot. Tessman was the MVP of the 2019 Development Academy playoffs and played 16 games for 2019 USL League One champion North Texas SC. (247sports.com)
