Saturday morning: What's in the news ...

1. A pair of PRO referees will work as assistant video assistant referees on Saturday at the FIFA Club World Cup in Qatar. Kyle Atkins will be the AVAR for the Liverpool-Flamengo final while Alan Kelly will work the third-place game between Monterrey and Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia. It marks the third year in a row, PRO has been represented in the Club World Cup final. In 2018, a crew led by referee Jair Marrufo and also featuring Frank Anderson, Corey Rockwell and Mark Geiger worked the Real Madrid-Al-Ain final. Geiger was the lone PRO official in the 2017 final as the VAR.

2. San Diego Loyal, the USL Championship expansion team, signed 26-year-old forward Irvin Parra, who scored 15 goals and added seven assists in 31 games for the Las Vegas Lights in 2019. He started out his pro career in Germany, where he spent six seasons at Homburg and Kaiserslautern. He later played for the Seattle Sounders FC 2 and Orange County SC. In 2017, he became the first player in USL Championship history to record double-digit goals and assists in the same season with 11 and 10, respectively.

3. Orlando City SC has named club academy director Marcelo Neveleff as the head coach for Orlando City B, its team in USL League One. Neveleff joined Orlando City in May from the New England Revolution, where he he was a first-team assistant coach since 2017. Prior to his time in New England, Neveleff collaborated with Oscar Pareja when the new Orlando City head coach was with FC Dallas, and Neveleff was the head coach of Andromeda FC, a former youth club based out of Plano, Texas.
