MLS holds first Youth Affiliate Coaches Summit in Baltimore

Major League Soccer won't be holding its annual draft at the United Soccer Coaches Convention for the first time since 2003 -- the SuperDraft was held by conference call -- but it will be holding for the first time the Youth Affiliate Coaches Summit, offering player development and talent identification seminars to coaches in Baltimore, site of the 2020 convention that begins Wednesday.

The MLS Youth Affiliate Network was launched in September 2019 in partnership with adidas.

Technical staff from MLS and six MLS clubs will guide Youth Affiliate Network coaches in a variety of courses ranging from sport psychology and talent identification to on-field goalkeeping coaching activities in courses that began Tuesday. Sessions will include presentations by coaches who have participated in the Elite Coaching Formation License through MLS’s partnership with the French federation.

The event will include a keynote presentation by reigning Garth Lagerwey, the general manager of the 2019 MLS champion Seattle Sounders.
