Friday morning: What's in the news ...

1. Pleasantrees, a marijuana company, will be a sponsor of Detroit City FC, whose men's team plays in the NISA and women in the UWS. As the club’s Official Training Partner, DCFC will have training jerseys featuring the Pleasantrees logo and its indoor facility renamed Pleasantrees Field. Michigan legalized recreational marijuana in 2019 and medical marijuana in 2008. Detroit FC is also sponsored by Stroh Beer Company and Brew Detroit.

2. U.S. World Cup champs Ali Krieger and Ashlyn Harris, who married last month, will be in the Budweiser "typical people" Super Bowl commercial, a montage that includes a firefighter, Army reservist, marathon runner and nonprofit founder.

3. Jill Ellis will be the University of Illinois’ commencement speaker at May 16 ceremonies in Memorial Stadium. Ellis, the USA's Women's World Cup-winning coach in 2015 and 2019, served has Illinois' head coach for two seasons after being hired to launch the program in 1997. She moved to UCLA in 1999.
